Appello Urgente allo stato del Texas per Jeffrey Wood, condannato a morte

La storia

Il 2 gennaio 1996 due uomini provano a rapinare il gestore di un distributore di benzina in Texas. Mentre Jeff Wood aspettava fuori, Daniel Reneau entrò nel locale con una pistola in mano e la puntò contro Kris Keeran, l'impiegato in piedi dietro il bancone.

Reneau gli ordinò di ritirarsi una stanza sul retro, ma poiché l'uomo sembrava perdere tempo, sparò un colpo che uccise Keeran, quasi istantaneamente.

Reneau poi sparò un altro colpo per aprire la cassaforte.

A quel punto, avendo sentito gli spari, Wood scese dalla macchina per vedere cosa stava succedendo e corse dentro, dove vide l'uomo ucciso, riverso per terra.

Reneau ordinò poi a Wood, sotto minaccia della pistola, di portare il suo complice al sicuro, lontano dal luogo del delitto.

I due rapinatori furono entrambi condannati a morte e Daniel Reneau, l'autore dell'omicidio, fu messo a morte nel 2002.

Jeff Wood fu condannato a morte nel 1998, applicando la cosiddetta Law of Parties, la legge che prevede la possibilità mettere a morte il coimputato di un omicida.

Dear Governor Abbott and                                                                                 

Distinguished members of the Texas                                                                          

Board of Pardons and Parole,

I the undersigned I am petitioning in order to save the life of Jeff Wood from the execution scheduled on August 24, 2016 for a murder he did not commit.

Jeff was charged under the controversial Law of Parties, as he was not the shooter in this crime, nor was he even in the building when the shooting took place.

The actual shooter in this case, Daniel Reneau, has already been executed by the state of Texas.”

Jeff also has mental and learning disabilities, dating back to his childhood, that allowed him to be taken advantage of not only by the shooter, but by the prosecution in this case as well. It is also a FACT that the jury never heard this or any other mitigating evidence that was readily available.

The fact that Wood's jury did not hear this important evidence has not been corrected by the courts, and executive clemency exists to intervene where the courts cannot.

Therefore, we implore you to have compassion and to do everything in your power to stop the execution and commute the death sentence of this man.
